By Orit Gat
Having started his collection in the early 1990s, Morrissey these days is frequently loaning works to museums and exhibitions around the country. He focuses on acquiring pieces by emerging figurative painters and photographers, and his taste has led, coincidentally, to his ownership of many important pieces by women artists who, it turns out, happen to have studied at Yale. Artists whose works he's collected in depth in recent years include Kehinde Wiley, Mickalene Thomas, Hilary Harkness, Katy Grannan, Anj Smith, and Natalie Frank.
